This is great! I'm enjoying the sci-fantasy vibe and the overall feel of the world. The dynamic between the two leads is strong and straightforward. I'm looking forward to more!
That text conversation "introducing" the princess had me giggling. And the whole stray cat and botany hobby combo has me swearing I'm reading about a particular family member of mine. xD
Those "wings" sound monstrous. Very fitting for rashly weaponized magic. They pervert the dignity of man and nature and seemingly look the part. I like the contrast between that and this almost old-Europe fort town and the leads' more harmonious relationship to magic and the flora and fauna.
Thanks for reading! It's the kind of thing I always want to read when authors write about settling alien planets. When America was colonized, the flora and fauna were almost entirely unknown. There's a lot of unsung heroes of naturalists who explored the wilds, collecting specimens and naming them. The same thing would happen on an alien planet, except without any help from the natives.
Ah, interesting. I did feel a twinge of adventurous excitement as they described the spark cats, and the implied dynamics about the dangerous creatures made me wonder about how those unwalled towns on the map dealt with the various movements of herds and packs. It reminded of one of the cooler planets I remember from the Star Wars expanded universe where there was this kind of old-Iranian looking city surrounded by a dangerous jungle, and though the city had "civilized" their little slice of the world, there was still a strong cultural dynamic around beast handling, and when war breaks out that plays a major factor.
Great first chapter! The two lead characters have chemistry in a platonic friendship with potential for something more serious down the road. Also, I like the "tech mage" feel of the Battle Mages. BTW, for AI, that picture came out great!
Thanks so much for reading! I was trying to go for a "real world" relationship with Mark and Sylvia. Like, they're just friends and there's none of the panting physical junk. Later on they even hold hands and there's no physical attraction. Blink and you'll miss it. :-D
Great first chapter! Love the blend of science & magic, a very interesting magic system. Particularly like the limitation that they must be sitting to use it. Makes for some interesting potential scenarios in the future.
I’m hooked. Really intriguing concept with the magic system. This line really got me: “…to wield the power of a god until he died of it.” Whoa. I’m looking forward to more!

Thanks so much for reading! I love this world very much, and that reminds me, I need to include a map in the next chapter.

A good first start. I like the two leads and the mages are an interesting part of the story. Looking forward to part 2.
Thanks so much for reading!
Your welcome. 👍

Looking forward to the next episodes!
Very interesting story. I'll be following this on Thursdays. Thank you!

Will there be more of this story?
Oh yes, it's all written. I'll just post a chapter every Thursday and do a little editing as I go.
Yay! Someone else who, writes all of it and then posts it. I’m in!
Hooray! Thanks for tuning in! It’s completely written, it just needs some editing, which I can do a chapter at a time as the story goes up.
I do a full edit and then another edit when I’m putting the chapter up. Not that that is a full proof way to catch the typos etc.
